jitwam’s HONEYCOMB album gets remixed by Glenn Astro, Horatio Luna, and N.O.T.E
Since the release of jitwam’s HONEYCOMB album in May 2019, support has streamed in from all corners of the planet, with tastemakers the likes of Gilles Peterson and Benji B tipping their hat in early months. Bridging the realms of psychedelic rock, hip hop, and soul, the artist has safely earned his place in the rich lineage of today’s most promising young talents.
Four months down the line with summer almost in the rear-view mirror, jitwam returns with a three-track remix package compiled by three distinctive music “freaks”: Glenn Astro, Horatio Luna, and N.O.T.E. Each putting their own signature spin on jitwam’s hazy soul productions, HONEYCOMB Remixes takes the record in a new direction with an extra dose of oomph.
Applying whispers of 90s R&B with boom-bap drums to the lead single “Temptations,” Glenn Astro of Ninja Tune and Apollo Rec fame rebuilds the track from the ground up. Leaving jitwam’s vocals untouched while reworking all other melodic elements, it’s a sensual and seductive affair.
Horatio Luna, Melbourne-based bassist, producer and founding member of the hip-hop-meets-soul community “30/70 collective” gets it right with his “Thunderstorm Mix” of “Diamonds.” Slowing down the pace and adding twanging bass, organ, and rain and thunder samples, “Diamonds” becomes a spiritual and otherworldly gem.
N.O.T.E, the Milanese piano virtuoso now based in Berlin, explores a different path with his “Pasta Mix” of the album’s second single, “Busstop.” Riding the wave of a chunky groove, N.O.T.E turns the track into a cheeky 80s boogie anthem, adding an irresistible bassline and rich layered keys. Together, the trio of tracks promises an unbeatable love triangle to accompany jitwam’s thirteen-track release.
jitwam’s HONEYCOMB Remixes is out September 13th on all digital platforms.
